Cruise for the deaf!

Event Flyer available here: http://tinyurl.com/3xf5lp

Aim:
Everywhere we go whether it is the job site, the office, the car, the home or the shopping centre most Australians can enjoy the sound of music as they go about their business. For a minute few it will never happen. This minute few are disadvantaged by a lack of access to communication, education and services for one reason; they are deaf. This cruise and its surrounding events are designed to raise funds for ‘Deaf Services Queensland’ and alert our local communities to a vision that all deaf Australians have and that is,
"An Australia where Deaf people have no barriers"

The Event:
‘Duke Noir’s Cruise for the Deaf’ will begin registering participants at 9:00am on the 12th of January 2008 at Victoria Park on Gilchrist Road outside the Royal Brisbane Hospital. The cruise will proceed from Gilchrist Road down the M1 at approximately 10:30am and finish at Kurrawa and Pratten Parks, Broad Beach at the Gold Coast.

At Broad beach there will be a sausage sizzle available in the park that runs along Old Burleigh Rd and in between Queensland Avenue and Margaret Avenue. During the course of the afternoon there will be a concert providing various genres of music. (Exact bands and groups are yet to be finalized. Hotel 44 who have played along side of Australia’s Screaming Jets will be performing on the day). We have invited X Box street machines and emergency services (fire trucks for display) to take part in the event. Hot rods will be a major part of the car cruise and showcased during the event. It is intended that Harleys become a major part of the cruise as well.

We have invited Mayor Ron Clarke to the event but at this point of time do not have a confirmation. There will be a number of slides and shows on the day for the kids both small and big. Also on location will be a skate board demo and kids boarding classes. For those who need to roll up their sleeves and show off their guns we will be holding tug of wars and arm wrestling contests.

Event Organizers:
This event has been organized by Duke Noir on behalf of Deaf Services Queensland. Both these companies got together with the view to give to those who are not able to appreciate what we call a passion, namely music.

Duke Noir is a Brisbane based guitar wholesaler and manufacturer. The owners of Duke Noir made a decision to take on board a local charity that they could support. When the suggestion was put forward to direct our focus toward those who are Deaf the vote was unanimous. After approaching Deaf Services Queensland it was evident that our first goal would be to raise awareness of the issues that deaf youths face and funds for programs that will assist them in obtaining access to further education beyond school.

Media:
The event will be covered on Brisbane and Gold Coast radios. As well as, newspapers and various magazines, websites and most music stores throughout both cities. There will be guitar give away advertised and more give aways on the day. In addition to this closer to the date we will be informing local news stations of the event and expect televised news coverage of the day.
